What should you know about puffiness of face meaning?

Morning fullness that settles may differ from swelling that develops within minutes. Note whether the eyelids, cheeks, lips or whole face are affected, and whether the skin feels itchy, hot, sore or tight.

Facial swelling can follow poor sleep, crying, heat, irritation from a product or a dental problem. A local hot and tender area may fit Cellulitis, while itchy raised areas may accompany Hives. Deeper swelling of the lips, eyelids or face can occur with Angioedema, sometimes after food, medicine or an insect sting. The appearance alone cannot identify the cause.

Get emergency help for facial swelling with difficulty breathing or swallowing, throat tightness, a hoarse voice, dizziness or swelling of the tongue. Seek same-day assessment for rapidly increasing puffiness, severe pain, fever, eye pain, vision change, or redness spreading across the face. A clinician should review swelling that does not settle or repeatedly returns.

Ask whether the timing suggests an allergic, inflammatory, infectious or fluid-related cause, and whether you need an examination of your eyes, teeth or skin. Bring the product and medicine list, and explain what changed before the swelling appeared.
