Intravesical treatment delivers medicine directly into the bladder rather than throughout the body. BCG is one option for selected higher-risk non-muscle-invasive tumours; other medicines may be used in different situations. Chemotherapy or immunotherapy given throughout the body is generally considered when the diagnosis or extent calls for it. Bladder removal surgery is a major option reserved for specific circumstances and requires discussion of urinary reconstruction and recovery.

Ask for the grade, tumour features, and planned cystoscopy schedule in writing. Report blood in urine, burning, urgency, or difficulty passing urine. Before an intravesical treatment, ask about fluid intake, medicines, infection symptoms, and hygiene instructions. Keep a record of instillations, side effects, pathology, and procedures so the team can recognise changes over time.

Seek prompt advice for fever, chills, severe bladder pain, inability to pass urine, or heavy or persistent blood in the urine. After bladder treatment, feeling suddenly very unwell should be reported without delay. Emergency help is appropriate for collapse, severe pain, confusion, or breathing difficulty.

Ask why the proposed treatment fits the tumour grade and history, whether another removal is needed, how cystoscopy will monitor the bladder, and what alternatives exist. Clarify expected urinary symptoms, infection precautions, work or activity restrictions, and the exact number to call for side effects.
