Psoriasis in skin folds

This form may affect the armpits, groin, under-breast area, between the buttocks, or other skin-to-skin surfaces. Because folds stay warm and damp, plaques may look bright red or darker rather than thick and scaly. Burning, tenderness, itching, cracking, and soreness with movement can occur. Yeast or bacterial irritation can look similar, so a clinician may need to inspect the area before treatment.

Wash gently, rinse away product, and pat the fold dry. Loose breathable clothing can reduce rubbing. Avoid perfumed powders, harsh antiseptics, and vigorous scrubbing. Treatments for folds are often selected carefully because thin skin absorbs medicines readily; use only the product and duration recommended for that site. Keep the area dry without trapping moisture against the skin.

Arrange assessment for persistent redness, repeated cracking, or symptoms that do not settle with gentle care. Prompt review is needed for rapidly spreading redness, warmth, swelling, pus, foul odour, marked pain, or fever. These changes may indicate infection or a different condition requiring specific treatment.
