What should you know about PSA scores for prostate cancer?

PSA is a blood measurement linked to prostate tissue. A clinician may compare it with prostate size, age, family history, urinary symptoms, and earlier scores.

For someone already diagnosed, the pattern after treatment may matter more than a single score. Surgery, Radiotherapy, Brachytherapy, or medicines can change PSA in different ways, so ask your team what result and timing they are using for follow-up.

Ask for the score, test date, laboratory units, and comparison with previous results. Do not compare numbers from different people as though they were interchangeable. Your clinician may repeat the test, check urine, arrange imaging, or discuss a Biopsy when the overall picture warrants it.
