What should you know about prostatitis symptoms?

Most people with prostatitis notice urinary or pelvic changes, although the combination differs. Symptoms can include burning when passing urine, needing to go often, a sudden urge, a weak or interrupted stream, or discomfort in the pelvis, lower back, penis, testicles, or between the scrotum and anus. Some people also feel feverish, tired, or generally unwell, especially when inflammation is linked to infection.

Record when symptoms began, how they change, and any fever, discharge, blood, or difficulty emptying the bladder. Arrange a GP Consultation so the clinician can examine you and consider urine testing. Similar symptoms can occur with a Urinary Tract Infection or other urinary conditions, so treatment should follow an assessment. Antibiotic Treatment may be appropriate when bacterial infection is suspected.

Seek urgent help if you cannot pass urine, have a high fever with chills, feel confused or faint, vomit repeatedly, or become rapidly more unwell. These signs can indicate a problem needing prompt treatment.
