What should you know about pressure in upper abdomen shortness of breath?

Bloating, reflux, or irritation below the ribs may make breathing feel restricted, especially after eating. Lung conditions such as Asthma or Acute Bronchitis can add chest or upper abdominal effort. Anaemia may contribute to breathlessness through reduced oxygen-carrying capacity. Angina can present with pressure that spreads beyond the chest. Anaphylaxis may cause rapid breathing difficulty with swelling, hives, or throat tightness.

Stop exertion, sit upright, loosen tight clothing, and note when the symptoms began and whether they followed food, exercise, or an exposure. Use a prescribed reliever inhaler exactly as directed. Do not drive yourself if breathing is difficult, the pressure is severe, or you feel faint. Even if symptoms settle, arrange assessment when this is new, recurrent, or unexplained.

Call emergency services for severe or worsening breathlessness, blue or grey lips, fainting, confusion, cold sweating, crushing pressure, pain spreading to the arm, jaw, or back, or swelling of the lips, tongue, or throat. Immediate care is also needed if symptoms start suddenly or follow a possible allergic exposure.
