Short answer

PMD microderm replacement discs are exfoliating attachments, and safe use depends on the correct disc, clean handling and controlled pressure.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the discs do

A replacement disc fits onto a compatible PMD device and works with suction to lift surface debris while the textured surface exfoliates the outermost skin layer. Discs can differ in coarseness, so a stronger option is not automatically more suitable. Overuse or lingering on one spot can cause irritation, rawness, broken surface vessels or darker marks, particularly in sensitive or pigment-prone skin. The device does not treat every acne, scar or pigmentation concern.

Using a replacement disc

Check compatibility and inspect the disc before use. Clean and dry the skin, begin with the gentlest suitable attachment, keep the device moving and use light pressure. Avoid eyelids, lips, active breakouts, cuts, sunburn, eczema and areas recovering from a peel or other procedure. Clean the device as directed and do not share the disc. Afterward, use bland skincare and protect exposed skin from sunlight. Pause if stinging or redness is more than mild.

When to seek care

Stop using the device and seek advice if you develop blistering, marked swelling, bleeding that does not settle, increasing pain, spreading redness or signs of infection. Persistent darkening or lightening after irritation should be assessed by a clinician. Urgent care is appropriate for facial swelling with breathing difficulty or severe eye pain.

Questions for your doctor

Ask whether home microdermabrasion suits your skin condition, which disc is appropriate, how often to use it and when to avoid it around prescribed treatments. Discuss alternatives such as a chemical peel if your concern is pigmentation, texture or blocked pores.

Questions people ask

Can I use a replacement disc on active acne?

Avoid treating inflamed or open spots because suction and abrasion may worsen irritation and spread surface bacteria.

Can microdermabrasion replace a chemical peel?

They exfoliate by different methods. A clinician can help choose between them based on your skin condition and treatment goal.
