Platelet-Derived Exosomes: What to Know

Exosomes are membrane-bound vesicles that can carry signalling molecules between cells. In aesthetic settings, a product may be applied to the skin after a procedure or delivered by another technique. The label platelet-derived does not by itself describe the complete manufacturing process, contents, sterility, or suitability for a particular person.

Ask whether the product is human-derived, how it is processed and stored, and whether it is intended for the proposed route of use. Results can depend on the skin concern, treatment method, and product characteristics.

Before agreeing, request the product name, source, batch information, route of administration, and consent information. Tell the clinician about allergies, immune conditions, active skin disease, medicines, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and previous reactions. Do not proceed through broken or infected skin unless the clinician has assessed it.

After treatment, follow the written cleansing and sun-protection instructions. Mild redness, tenderness, or swelling can occur after skin procedures; avoid picking and unapproved products while the barrier recovers.

Contact the provider if redness spreads, warmth and pain intensify, pus-like drainage appears, or healing is unexpectedly slow. Seek urgent medical help for facial swelling with breathing difficulty, faintness, widespread hives, vision changes, or severe pain. New blisters, darkening skin, or persistent lumps should also be reviewed.

Ask what the treatment is expected to address, what evidence supports the specific product and route, and who manufactured it. Clarify sterility testing, storage, alternatives, aftercare, and the plan if you react. Ask whether a simpler established treatment may be more suitable for your concern.
