Erbium YAG is a laser wavelength strongly absorbed by water in the skin. In fractional treatment, the beam creates microscopic treatment columns with untreated skin between them; in more extensive resurfacing, the clinician may treat a broader surface. The approach can be considered for uneven texture, fine lines, selected scars, or sun-related changes. Depth, density, cooling, skin tone, and healing history influence the plan. A consultation is needed to distinguish a resurfacing goal from treatment of an active skin condition.

Tell the clinician about recent tanning, cold sores, medicines that affect healing, active dermatitis, acne, and any history of raised scars or dark marks. Follow instructions about sun avoidance and products to pause. After treatment, the skin may be red, swollen, warm, tender, or flaky. Keep it clean and moisturized as directed, do not peel crusts, and protect it from sunlight while it heals. The clinician should explain whether a lighter fractional approach or another technology better fits your concern and recovery preferences.

Contact the clinic if pain, swelling, redness, or drainage is increasing, or if blisters, spreading warmth, or fever develops. Report unusual darkening, lightening, or delayed healing early. Seek emergency care for breathing difficulty or sudden swelling of the lips or face.
