Pins and needles in my fingertips

Brief tingling may happen after leaning on the hand, gripping a device, or keeping the wrist in one position. The exact fingertips involved can provide clues: thumb-side symptoms may involve the median nerve, while little-finger symptoms may involve the ulnar nerve. Neck irritation can also send altered sensation into the hand.

Ongoing tingling in several fingers or both hands can occur with Peripheral Neuropathy. Type 2 Diabetes, Vitamin B12 Deficiency, and Hypothyroidism are among the conditions a clinician may consider. Fingertip tingling is not enough to identify any single cause.

Release tight grips, change hand position, and gently stretch and move the fingers. Protect numb skin from very hot water, sharp tools, and friction because reduced sensation can hide an injury. Keep a diary of triggers, duration, affected fingers, pain, and grip changes.

Make a routine appointment if symptoms recur, remain after you stop the trigger, interfere with writing or fastening clothes, or come with weakness. A clinician can examine the nerves and decide whether further tests are appropriate.

Seek emergency help for sudden numbness or weakness, particularly on one side, with facial drooping, speech difficulty, confusion, or trouble walking. These are possible signs of Stroke or a Transient Ischaemic Attack and should not be watched at home.

Get urgent help if the hand is severely injured, cold, pale, blue, or rapidly swelling, or if you cannot move it normally.
