Pins and needles in the hands and feet when lying down

Short answer
Pins and needles in your hands and feet when lying down may come from pressure or position, but recurring or spreading symptoms should be assessed.

Why lying down can bring it on
A sleeping posture can bend a wrist, compress an elbow, or place pressure on a leg and briefly disturb nerve signals. If symptoms appear in both hands and feet whenever you lie down, position may be contributing, but it is not the only possibility. Peripheral Neuropathy can affect several limbs, and Type 2 Diabetes, Vitamin B12 Deficiency, or Hypothyroidism may be associated with nerve symptoms. Rapid breathing during anxiety or Panic Disorder can also cause tingling. Notice whether symptoms disappear after repositioning or remain after you stand and move.
Try these measures
Support your limbs in a comfortable, neutral position and avoid lying on an arm or crossing your legs for long periods. Move fingers, toes, ankles, and wrists gently; stop if movement causes pain or weakness. Check the skin for pressure marks and protect areas with reduced sensation from heat and friction. Arrange a medical appointment if the episodes are frequent, last after changing position, disturb sleep, or are accompanied by imbalance, weakness, or reduced grip. Bring a list of medicines and describe the exact pattern.
Warning signs
Call emergency services if symptoms begin suddenly with weakness on one side, facial drooping, speech difficulty, confusion, or new trouble walking. These are possible signs of Stroke or Transient Ischaemic Attack. Seek urgent care for rapidly worsening weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, severe back pain with leg symptoms, or a limb that is cold, blue, or severely painful.
What to ask
Ask whether your posture, spine, or a peripheral nerve could explain the distribution. Ask whether you need checks for glucose, thyroid function, or Vitamin B12, how to protect reduced sensation, and which changes should prompt urgent help.

Questions people ask
Why does tingling start when I lie down?
A lying or sleeping position can put pressure on a nerve or bend a joint, making symptoms noticeable until you reposition.
Should I seek care if it happens every night?
Yes. Frequent episodes, symptoms that persist after movement, or changes in balance or strength merit a clinical assessment.
