Pins and needles in the arms and legs

Tingling after sitting, sleeping awkwardly, or leaning on a limb often settles when pressure is removed. Persistent symptoms can involve several nerves, as in Peripheral Neuropathy, or may occur with Type 2 Diabetes, Vitamin B12 Deficiency, or Hypothyroidism. Panic Disorder and fast breathing can produce tingling in hands and feet, usually alongside breathlessness, fear, or dizziness. The distribution, timing, and accompanying weakness help a clinician decide which causes to investigate.

Move gently, change position, and protect numb skin from heat, sharp objects, and pressure. Keep a simple record of affected areas, episodes, recent illness, new medicines, alcohol use, and symptoms such as cramps or weakness. Book a primary-care appointment if episodes recur, spread, last longer than expected, or interfere with walking, balance, work, or sleep.

Call emergency services for sudden numbness or weakness on one side, facial drooping, speech difficulty, confusion, new vision changes, or severe balance problems. These symptoms can occur with Stroke or a Transient Ischaemic Attack and need urgent attention even if they improve. Seek prompt care for rapidly worsening symptoms, inability to walk, or new loss of bladder or bowel control.
