Pink eye and pregnancy: what to know

Conjunctivitis is inflammation of the thin surface covering the eye. It can cause a Red Eye, watering, gritty discomfort and Eye Discharge. Causes include viruses, bacteria and allergies; pregnancy does not identify which cause is present. A viral infection may accompany a cold, while allergy-related irritation may affect both eyes and itch. Symptoms that involve the cornea or vision need a different level of assessment.

Wash hands before and after touching the face, avoid rubbing the eyes, and use separate towels and pillowcases. Clean crusting gently with clean water and a fresh pad.
