Pimples on the bikini line after shaving

A close shave can leave tiny areas of irritation around hair follicles. As hair grows back, a curved hair may press into the skin and form an itchy or tender bump; this is commonly called razor bumps. Folliculitis can produce several red or pus-filled bumps centred on hairs. Acne can also occur in the groin area, but a new cluster immediately after shaving points toward grooming-related irritation rather than proving a diagnosis.

Stop shaving or waxing until the skin is calm. Rinse gently, avoid fragranced products and tight underwear, and reduce rubbing from exercise or damp clothing. Do not squeeze, dig for hairs, or use rough exfoliating tools. When you resume shaving, soften the hair first, use a clean sharp razor, follow the direction of growth, and avoid repeated passes. Keep products intended for external skin away from mucosal surfaces, and ask a clinician before using medicated treatments in this sensitive area.

Get medical advice if pain, warmth, swelling, pus, or redness is increasing, or if fever or feeling unwell accompanies the skin change. Seek review for blisters, open sores, unusual discharge, or a lesion that does not behave like a shaving bump.
