Pico Laser for Blackheads: What to Know

A blackhead is an open comedone: oil and dead skin cells collect inside a follicle, and the exposed material darkens when it meets air. This is different from a flat brown mark. A pico laser delivers brief energy pulses and may have uses for selected pigment concerns, but it does not directly replace a treatment designed to loosen or prevent comedones.

Blackheads can occur as part of acne or comedonal acne. A clinician can distinguish them from enlarged pores, sebaceous filaments, or pigmented spots before recommending a procedure.

Use a gentle cleanser and avoid squeezing, which can injure the follicle and leave a mark.
