Permanent Tattoo Removal

A laser delivers short pulses of light that target tattoo pigment. The pigment breaks into smaller particles, which the body gradually clears. Ink colour, depth, density, location, age, and your skin tone affect the response. Some colours respond more readily than others, and a shadow or altered texture may remain. The result is not the same as simply lifting ink from the surface.

Choose an experienced medical provider who can inspect the tattoo and surrounding skin. Picosecond Laser and Q-Switched Laser systems use different pulse characteristics, and the appropriate device depends on the pigment and your skin. Protect the area from tanning before and after treatment, disclose medicines and a history of unusual scarring, and follow wound-care instructions. Redness, swelling, blistering, temporary light or dark patches, and discomfort can occur.

Contact the treating clinic if pain intensifies, redness spreads, swelling becomes marked, pus develops, or you feel unwell. Urgent help is needed for facial swelling with breathing difficulty or a rapidly worsening reaction. A changing, bleeding, or persistently itchy spot within a tattoo should be examined rather than treated as pigment alone.
