Permanent Sun Burn

Sunburn is an acute injury caused by ultraviolet radiation. Redness, warmth, tenderness, peeling, and sometimes blisters can develop after exposure. Persistent uneven colour, fine lines, roughness, or fragile skin may reflect Sun-Damaged Skin rather than an active burn. Peeling is part of repair, but picking it can worsen irritation and increase the chance of marks.

Get out of direct sun, use cool compresses, drink fluids, and wear loose clothing. Apply a bland moisturiser or Emollient Therapy when the skin is comfortable, and avoid scrubbing, fragranced products, tanning, and deliberate peeling. Do not break blisters. A clinician may consider Topical Corticosteroids in selected cases, but do not apply prescription treatment without advice. Once healed, shade, protective clothing, and broad-spectrum sunscreen help prevent another injury.

Seek urgent care for extensive blistering, severe swelling, faintness, confusion, repeated vomiting, dehydration, breathing trouble, or severe pain. Medical advice is also appropriate when redness is spreading, fever develops, drainage appears, or healing is not progressing.
