What should you know about peripheral neuropathy psoriatic arthritis?

Psoriatic arthritis mainly causes inflammatory pain, swelling, stiffness, and tenderness around joints or where tendons attach. Neuropathy affects nerves and may produce electric, burning, prickling, or reduced sensations, often in the hands or feet. Symptoms can overlap: swelling, altered walking, or a trapped nerve may change how a limb feels. Psoriatic arthritis itself does not establish the cause of neuropathy. Type 2 diabetes, alcohol use disorder, vitamin B12 deficiency, medicines, and other conditions can also be considered.

Record where the sensation starts, whether it is on one or both sides, and whether weakness, balance trouble, rash, joint swelling, or back pain accompanies it. Protect numb skin from heat, pressure, and cuts; check hands and feet regularly. Arrange a review with your primary-care or rheumatology team. They may examine reflexes, strength, sensation, joints, and circulation, and may request a blood test or diabetes screening. Do not stop arthritis medicine without discussing it first.

Seek urgent help for sudden one-sided weakness or numbness, facial drooping, speech trouble, severe new imbalance, or loss of bladder or bowel control. Contact a clinician quickly for rapidly worsening weakness, a new foot wound, spreading redness, or severe pain with a cold or discoloured limb. Arrange routine assessment for persistent tingling, numbness, restless legs, or symptoms that disturb sleep.
