What should you know about perineal folliculitis?

The area may develop small red bumps, pimples, crusting or soreness around individual hairs. Shaving, waxing, friction, sweating, tight clothing and occlusive products can irritate follicles. Bacteria or yeast may also contribute. An ingrown hair can create a similar bump, so appearance alone cannot confirm the cause. Pause shaving and waxing until the skin settles, wash gently, pat dry and choose loose, breathable underwear. Avoid squeezing, scrubbing or applying fragranced products to broken skin.
