Penile melanoma symptoms: what to know

Melanoma on penile skin may appear as a new or changing brown, black, blue, or mixed-colour area. Warning changes include asymmetry, an uneven edge, several shades, growth, crusting, bleeding, persistent itching, tenderness, or an ulcer that does not heal. A firm lump or enlarged groin node can also need assessment. Symptoms can be subtle, and an absence of pain does not rule out a significant lesion.

These signs do not identify the cause by themselves. Moles, inflammation, injury, and other penile conditions can produce colour or surface changes. A clinician needs to examine the lesion and may take a biopsy.

Book a timely appointment with a dermatologist or urologist and note when the change began. A private photograph can help you compare changes while waiting, but do not delay care if the lesion is growing or bleeding. Avoid picking, shaving over, burning, or applying acids. Assessment may lead to biopsy, followed by Surgical Excision or another form of Skin Cancer Surgery if melanoma is confirmed.

Seek prompt care for rapid change, an open sore, repeated bleeding, a new groin lump, or difficulty urinating. Go to emergency care for uncontrolled bleeding, severe swelling, inability to pass urine, or severe systemic symptoms. A painless changing mark still warrants timely review because urgency is based on the skin change, not discomfort.
