Penile lymphoma

Lymphoma is a cancer of lymphatic-system cells. When it involves the penis, possible findings include swelling, a lump, altered skin, pain, erection difficulty or enlarged groin nodes. Some people may also have broader symptoms such as fever, unexplained weight loss or [Night Sweats](/symptoms/night-sweats/). These signs are not specific, and infections or other conditions can look similar.

Assessment commonly includes an examination and biopsy. Blood tests and imaging such as a [PET-CT Scan](/treatments/diagnostics-and-staging/pet-ct-scan/) help show where lymphoma is present. The laboratory subtype and extent of disease influence whether [Chemotherapy](/treatments/systemic-therapy/chemotherapy/), [Immunotherapy](/treatments/systemic-therapy/immunotherapy/) or [Radiotherapy](/treatments/radiation-oncology/radiotherapy/) is appropriate.

Arrange medical assessment for a persistent penile lump, swelling, skin change or groin enlargement. Do not squeeze the area or use leftover creams. Bring medication details and describe changes in pain, urination, sexual function, fever, weight or night sweating. Seek urgent care for inability to pass urine, rapidly worsening swelling, severe pain, heavy bleeding, high fever, confusion or sudden weakness. During treatment, report fever, breathlessness, severe diarrhoea, unusual bleeding or a new widespread rash promptly because infection and treatment-related inflammation may need rapid management.

Ask which lymphoma subtype is present, whether disease is limited to the penis or found elsewhere, what biopsy and scan results show, and why a proposed treatment fits your situation. Ask how fertility, sexual function and urinary function may be supported.
