PCOS and loss of libido: what to know

Short answer
PCOS may be linked with loss of libido through hormonal symptoms, discomfort, stress, mood changes or treatment effects, and the cause can be assessed and addressed.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why sex drive may change
PCOS can affect periods, skin, hair growth, body image and fertility concerns. Pain, vaginal dryness, tiredness or worry about intimacy can reduce interest in sex. Depression and burnout may also lower desire, while relationship stress or past difficult experiences can matter too.
Loss of libido is a symptom, not a diagnosis. It may also occur with hypothyroidism, type 2 diabetes, other hormone changes, some medicines or poor sleep. The timing matters: note whether the change began after a new medicine, a change in periods, pain, mood symptoms or a stressful event.
How to start a review
Book a private appointment with a GP, gynaecologist or sexual-health clinician. Explain what has changed, whether desire is absent or simply lower, and whether sex is painful or emotionally difficult. A clinician may review medicines, mood, sleep, thyroid symptoms, glucose health and PCOS concerns.
Treatment depends on the contributors. Options may include adjusting a medicine, treating pain or dryness, addressing depression or stress, counselling, and support for PCOS symptoms. Do not stop prescribed treatment on your own. You can involve a partner only if you want to; your consultation remains confidential within normal safety limits.
When to seek care promptly
Arrange prompt medical review for new pelvic pain, bleeding after sex, genital sores, unusual discharge, or symptoms suggesting a hormone or glucose problem. Seek urgent help after sexual assault or if you feel unsafe. Loss of libido with severe depression or thoughts of self-harm needs immediate support.
Questions for your doctor
Could PCOS, thyroid function, glucose levels or a medicine be affecting my desire? Is pain or dryness contributing? What treatments could improve comfort? Would counselling or sex therapy help? Which changes should prompt a follow-up, and how can we review progress?

Questions people ask
Is loss of libido a normal part of PCOS?
Reduced desire can occur with PCOS-related symptoms or emotional strain, but it is not something you have to accept without assessment.
Can PCOS treatment improve libido?
It may help when it addresses a contributor such as pain, mood symptoms, sleep difficulty or a treatment side effect; the best option depends on your review.
