Patey's modified radical mastectomy

This operation is a form of mastectomy used for selected breast cancers and other situations where removal of the breast and underarm lymph nodes is advised. The surgeon removes breast tissue, the nipple and areola, and lymph nodes from the axilla, while the main chest muscle is generally left in place.
