What should you know about painful lump base of neck?

The base of the neck includes lymph nodes, the thyroid region, muscles, skin, and tissues above the collarbone. A tender lump can arise with a nearby throat, dental, skin, or respiratory infection. A cyst or irritated muscle can also feel painful.
