Pain in one breast during ovulation

Hormonal breast tenderness is one possible explanation. A strained chest muscle, pressure from an ill-fitting bra, skin irritation, or a small cyst can also cause focal discomfort. Infection is more concerning when pain comes with warmth, redness, swelling, fever, or discharge. A breast lump is a common presentation of several benign breast changes, but a new lump still needs a clinician’s examination.

Note which day the pain starts, how long it lasts, where it is located, and whether movement or touch changes it. Wear a supportive, comfortable bra and avoid repeatedly pressing the tender area. A warm or cool compress may help. If you normally can take them safely, follow the label directions for an over-the-counter pain reliever. Arrange a clinical review if the pain continues beyond the cycle or keeps returning in the same spot.

Seek prompt medical care for a new hard or fixed lump, bloody nipple discharge, nipple inversion, skin dimpling, marked redness, fever, or rapidly increasing swelling. Get emergency help for breast-area pain with severe breathlessness, fainting, or pressure spreading to the arm or jaw.
