Inner elbow pain after bicep curls: what to know

Short answer
Inner elbow pain after bicep curls often reflects overload of the forearm or biceps tendon, but joint irritation or nerve sensitivity can also contribute and needs assessment if it persists.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Common trigger
- A change in load, volume, grip, or curl technique
- Nerve clue
- Tingling into the ring and little fingers
- Training rule
- Do not repeatedly test a movement that causes sharp pain
What may be happening
Curls load the muscles that bend the elbow and turn the forearm. Increasing weight, volume, grip demand, or speed can irritate their tendons near the inner elbow. Golfer's Elbow affects tendons on this side and may hurt with gripping or wrist movement. Cubital Tunnel Syndrome is more likely to include tingling or numbness into the ring and little fingers. Elbow Osteoarthritis may cause stiffness or catching. Tennis Elbow usually centres on the outer elbow, but overlapping pain can make examination useful.
Training adjustments
Stop the curl variation that causes sharp pain and avoid testing it repeatedly. For a short period, use lighter daily demands, keep the wrist neutral, and use a controlled range that remains comfortable. Ice or a cool pack wrapped in cloth may soothe soreness; do not apply it directly to skin. When ordinary movement settles, gradual strengthening guided by a physiotherapist can rebuild tolerance. PRP Injection or Shockwave Therapy should only be discussed after the diagnosis is clear, not used as a substitute for identifying the source.
When to seek care
Arrange an examination if pain does not settle with training modification, interferes with work, or is accompanied by reduced grip. Seek prompt care after a sudden pop, bruising, visible change in the biceps, major swelling, or inability to bend or straighten the elbow. Urgent advice is appropriate for persistent numbness, hand weakness, a hot red joint with fever, or severe pain after an injury.
Questions for your doctor
Ask which tendon, nerve, or joint is involved and whether your grip, wrist position, or curl technique is contributing. Describe the exercise, load change, pain timing, and any tingling or weakness. Ask when to resume curls, which alternatives are acceptable, and how to progress resistance without provoking the elbow.

Questions people ask
Should I stretch a painful inner elbow after curls?
Gentle movement may be reasonable, but forceful stretching can aggravate an irritated tendon; stop if symptoms become sharp or spread.
Is inner elbow pain always golfer's elbow?
No. Tendon overload, nerve irritation, joint problems, and referred pain can feel similar.
