Pain during sex when your legs are up

Pain during sex when your legs are up may reflect deeper pressure, pelvic-floor tension, dryness, or an underlying pelvic condition. The position can change the angle and depth of movement, so pain that appears only there is useful information for a clinician.

Raised legs may allow deeper contact or stretch tissues around the vaginal opening and pelvis. Entrance pain can occur with irritation, Vulvodynia, or Lichen Sclerosus; deep pain can occur with Endometriosis, an Ovarian Endometrioma, or Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. The position does not by itself diagnose any condition.

Lower the legs, reduce depth, slow the movement, and agree on a signal to stop. More arousal and a water-based or silicone-based lubricant may reduce friction. Choose positions where you control movement and avoid returning to a painful activity until soreness settles. Record where the pain occurs and whether it is sharp, aching, burning, or linked to your cycle.

Book a medical review when the pain is repeated, newly severe, or present in other positions, or when it affects intimacy. Get prompt care for pelvic pain with fever, vomiting, faintness, heavy bleeding, foul-smelling discharge, or feeling acutely unwell. A clinician can assess pelvic muscles, skin, infection, and deeper causes with your consent.
