Paano mawala ang acid reflux: practical steps for relief

Short answer
Acid reflux may improve by eating smaller meals, avoiding personal triggers, staying upright after eating, and using treatment recommended by a clinician or pharmacist.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

- Typical pattern
- Symptoms often worsen after meals or when lying down.
- Helpful habit

- Recurrent symptoms, swallowing problems or unexplained weight loss need assessment.
What acid reflux means
Acid reflux happens when stomach contents move back up into the oesophagus, the tube between your mouth and stomach. It can cause a burning feeling behind the breastbone, a sour taste, burping or irritation in the throat. Symptoms may be worse after a large meal, when bending over, or when lying down. Some people also develop a cough or sleep disruption. A hiatus hernia can contribute to reflux, and excess weight may increase pressure around the stomach; these are possible contributors rather than explanations for every case.
What you can do
Notice which foods, drinks or habits bring symptoms on, then reduce those triggers without removing foods unnecessarily. Common triggers include large or fatty meals, spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine and smoking, but patterns differ. Leave several hours between your evening meal and bedtime, and remain upright after eating. Raising the head end of the bed can help night-time symptoms; extra pillows alone may bend the body and add pressure. Choose comfortable clothing around the waist. A pharmacist can discuss short-term antacid or alginate options, while a doctor can assess whether a longer course of acid-lowering medicine is suitable. Do not stop prescribed medicine without advice.
When to seek care
Seek urgent medical help for chest pressure or tightness with breathlessness, sweating, faintness, or pain spreading to the arm, back or jaw, because heart problems can resemble reflux. Arrange prompt assessment if food sticks when swallowing, swallowing becomes painful, you vomit blood, pass black stools, lose weight without trying, or have persistent vomiting. Book a medical review when symptoms keep returning, disturb sleep, need frequent non-prescription medicine, or do not settle with practical measures. A clinician can check for reflux and other causes, including chest or abdominal conditions.
Questions for your doctor
Ask: Could my symptoms be reflux or another condition? Which medicine and treatment duration fit my symptoms? Could any of my current medicines worsen reflux? Do I need assessment for a hiatus hernia or another cause? What should I do if symptoms return at night or swallowing changes?

Questions people ask
Can acid reflux cause a cough?
Reflux can irritate the throat and may contribute to a cough, especially when symptoms occur at night. Persistent cough still needs assessment because it has other possible causes.
Should I take reflux medicine every day?
That depends on how often symptoms occur, their severity and your health history. A pharmacist or doctor can recommend the right product and duration, particularly if you need treatment repeatedly.
Why is reflux worse at night?
Lying down removes gravity's help in keeping stomach contents down, and eating close to bedtime can leave the stomach full. Earlier evening meals and an elevated bed head may help.
