Ovulation pain on the right side only

Ovulation pain, also called mittelschmerz, may feel like a twinge, cramp, or sharper ache low in the abdomen. It can happen around the middle of a cycle and may switch sides between cycles, although some people notice it on the same side more often. The pain should settle rather than steadily intensify. A right-sided ache can also come from bowel, urinary, pelvic, or reproductive causes, so its location alone cannot identify the cause. Endometriosis may cause recurring pelvic pain, while Ovarian Cysts can sometimes cause pressure or sudden pain.

Note when the pain begins, how long it lasts, its intensity, and whether bleeding, discharge, nausea, fever, or urinary symptoms occur. Rest, gentle movement, warmth over the lower abdomen, and fluids may help mild discomfort. Use only pain medicine that is suitable for you and follow its label; check with a clinician or pharmacist if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have stomach or kidney problems, or take other medicines. A cycle and symptom record can help distinguish a repeat mid-cycle pattern from a new problem.

Seek urgent medical care for sudden severe right-sided pain, fainting, marked weakness, repeated vomiting, fever, heavy bleeding, a rigid or swollen abdomen, or pain with a possible pregnancy. Arrange a medical review if pain keeps returning, lasts beyond the expected mid-cycle window, interferes with daily activities, or is becoming more intense. A clinician may ask about your cycle and examine you; pregnancy testing or imaging may be considered when the pattern is unclear.
