How long does ovulation pain on the left side last?

Ovulation pain, or mittelschmerz, may be felt on the side of the ovary that is active in that cycle. It can be a dull ache, pressure, or a sharper twinge low in the abdomen. The left side does not by itself identify the cause, and the sensation can be hard to distinguish from bowel, urinary, muscular, or other pelvic pain.

A short, familiar episode near the middle of the cycle is more compatible with ovulation discomfort than pain that steadily worsens, continues into the following days, or returns without a cycle pattern. An ovarian cyst or endometriosis can also cause pelvic pain and should be considered when symptoms persist or recur.

Record when the left-sided pain begins and ends, its intensity, and any bleeding, discharge, bowel, urinary, or pregnancy-related symptoms. Rest and gentle warmth may be useful for mild discomfort.
