Can ovulation pain be felt in the bum?

Ovulation pain can sometimes be felt near the bottom or rectum because pelvic organs share nearby nerves, but this symptom has other possible causes. You may notice a deep ache, pressure, or brief sharp pain in the pelvis, buttock area, or rectum, sometimes alongside one-sided lower abdominal discomfort. The location alone cannot confirm that ovulation is responsible.

Pain signals from an ovary can be felt in nearby areas, especially when the pelvic tissues are sensitive around egg release. Constipation, bowel irritation, pelvic-floor muscle tension, anal conditions, endometriosis, and an ovarian cyst can produce similar sensations. Notice whether pain relates to your cycle, bowel movements, sex, sitting, or urination; that context helps a clinician narrow the possibilities.

Track the pain's timing, depth, side, triggers, and associated bleeding or discharge. Keep stools soft with fluids and fibre if constipation is a feature, unless a clinician has advised otherwise. A warm pack, rest, and changing position may ease pelvic discomfort. Avoid inserting anything into the rectum or vagina to investigate the pain. Use pain medicine only if it is appropriate for you and follow the directions.

Get urgent care for severe or sudden pelvic or rectal pain, fainting, fever, heavy bleeding, repeated vomiting, black or bloody stools, or pain when pregnancy is possible. Arrange a medical review if pain recurs, persists beyond your usual mid-cycle pattern, causes painful bowel movements or sex, or is accompanied by discharge, urinary symptoms, or a change in bowel habits.
