Why can ovulation pain hurt when you sit down?

Short answer
Ovulation pain may feel worse when sitting because pelvic pressure changes the position of tender tissues, but marked or persistent pain needs assessment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why sitting may hurt
Ovulation pain may feel worse when sitting because pelvic pressure changes the position of tender tissues, but marked or persistent pain needs assessment. Discomfort may be felt low in the abdomen, pelvis, or near the hips, and can be sharper on one side. Sitting pain is not specific enough to identify ovulation by itself.
Possible explanations
Around ovulation, an ovary may be sensitive as a follicle grows or releases an egg. Pressure from a chair, tight clothing, or a bent-hip position can make an existing ache more noticeable. Pain with sitting can also arise from muscles, bowel or bladder problems, endometriosis, or an ovarian cyst, particularly when it is unrelated to the cycle or accompanied by other symptoms.
Practical comfort measures
Change position regularly, use a supportive cushion, loosen restrictive clothing, and try a warm pack over the lower abdomen. Gentle walking may be more comfortable than remaining seated, but stop if activity increases pain. Record cycle timing, posture, pain location, bowel and bladder symptoms, bleeding, and what relieves or aggravates the discomfort. Take medicines only when suitable for you and according to their directions.
When to get help
Seek urgent care for sudden severe pain, fainting, fever, heavy bleeding, repeated vomiting, or pelvic pain when pregnancy is possible. Arrange a review if sitting remains painful, the symptom is new or worsening, pain affects walking or sleep, or you have unusual discharge, painful sex, or bowel or bladder changes.
Useful questions
Ask whether the pain appears pelvic, muscular, bowel-related, or urinary; whether an examination is needed; and which warning signs should prompt urgent care. Explain how sitting changes the pain and bring cycle dates, medicines, pregnancy possibility, and relevant pelvic history.

Questions people ask
Is pain when sitting typical ovulation pain?
It can occur when pelvic tenderness is aggravated by pressure, but sitting pain is not specific and may have other causes.
What if sitting is painful every cycle?
A repeated pattern should still be discussed if it limits activity, lasts longer than expected, or comes with bleeding or other pelvic symptoms.
