What should you know about over tiredness during pregnancy?

Short answer
Tiredness is common during pregnancy, but severe or persistent exhaustion deserves assessment because sleep, nutrition, anaemia, dehydration and illness can all contribute.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why pregnancy can feel exhausting
Hormonal changes, increased physical demands, nausea, interrupted sleep and emotional strain can reduce energy. The pattern may change as pregnancy progresses, and ordinary tiredness often improves with rest, food and fluids.
A marked change from your usual energy, breathlessness with little exertion, paleness, dizziness or a racing heartbeat can occur with Anaemia. Fever, diarrhoea, vomiting, cough or reduced urination may point to infection or Dehydration instead.
Practical steps
Rest when you can, keep a regular sleep routine, eat small balanced meals and drink fluids regularly. Gentle movement may help if your maternity team says it is suitable. Accept practical help and avoid driving or operating equipment when drowsiness makes you unsafe.
Keep antenatal appointments and tell your midwife or doctor how tiredness affects daily tasks. Do not begin iron tablets, herbal products or high-dose supplements without advice; the cause should be checked and treatment chosen for pregnancy.
When to seek care
Contact your maternity team promptly for exhaustion with fainting, chest pain, trouble breathing, heavy bleeding, severe headache, swelling with visual changes, persistent vomiting, fever or noticeably reduced urination. Get urgent help if you feel seriously unwell or cannot keep fluids down.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether you need a blood count, an examination or checks for dehydration, thyroid problems or infection. Discuss sleep, diet, mood, medicines and any change in your baby’s movements that concerns you.

Questions people ask
Is tiredness always a normal pregnancy symptom?
No. It is common, but a severe, worsening or unusual pattern should be discussed with your maternity team.
Can I take iron for pregnancy tiredness?
Ask your clinician first. Iron is useful when deficiency is present, but supplementation should match your assessment and pregnancy care.
