Ovary pain between ovulation and your period

Hormonal changes after ovulation can bring pelvic heaviness, cramping, or breast and bowel changes before bleeding starts. The uterus, pelvic muscles, bowel, and bladder can also create pain felt near an ovary. A cyst may cause pressure or one-sided discomfort, while endometriosis can cause pain that follows a cycle and may also affect sex or bowel movements. The character of the pain matters: a new sharp sensation is different from a familiar mild ache.

Keep a simple cycle diary with the pain’s side, intensity, triggers, bleeding, discharge, bowel symptoms, and medicines used. Gentle movement, rest, and local warmth can be reasonable for mild symptoms. Seek a planned review when pain affects normal activities, occurs outside the usual pattern, or continues over successive cycles. Tell the clinician if pregnancy is possible, even before a test is positive.

Seek urgent help for severe or rapidly worsening pain, faintness, fever, repeated vomiting, heavy bleeding, unusual shoulder pain, or marked abdominal tenderness. These features should be assessed promptly rather than attributed to premenstrual changes.
