Ovarian cyst and no period for two months

A cyst can be linked with changes in ovulation, yet the scan finding may be unrelated to a missed period. Pregnancy, stress, weight change, intense exercise, thyroid or other hormone problems, [Polycystic Ovary Syndrome](/conditions/polycystic-ovary-syndrome/), [Menopause](/conditions/menopause/) and [Premature Ovarian Insufficiency](/conditions/premature-ovarian-insufficiency/) are among the possibilities. Age and the usual pattern of your cycles matter. A stopped period is a symptom, not a diagnosis, so the cause cannot be identified from the cyst alone.

If pregnancy is possible, take a pregnancy test and ask a clinician how to interpret the result. Write down the date of your last period, usual cycle pattern, medicines, contraception, stress, weight or exercise changes, hot flushes and new hair or skin changes. Seek urgent care for severe or one-sided pelvic pain, faintness, shoulder-tip pain, heavy bleeding, fever or vomiting, especially with a positive pregnancy test or possible pregnancy. These symptoms can signal an emergency such as ectopic pregnancy, cyst rupture or ovarian twisting. Arrange a routine review if periods remain absent, or sooner if symptoms are changing.
