Otitis externa homeopathic treatment: what to know

Otitis externa, also called swimmer's ear, is inflammation or infection of the ear canal between the outer ear and the eardrum. Water, scratching, earbuds, hearing aids, eczema, or irritation can damage the canal's protective skin. Pain may worsen when the outer ear is touched, and swelling or discharge can narrow the canal.

Homeopathy uses highly diluted preparations. Relying on it alone may delay treatment that targets inflammation or infection. Ear drops are not interchangeable: some are unsuitable if the eardrum is perforated or its condition is unknown.

Arrange a GP assessment if you have ear pain, tenderness, discharge, or reduced hearing. Until then, keep the ear dry, avoid swimming, and do not put homeopathic drops, oils, cotton buds, or other objects into the canal unless a clinician has advised it. Wipe discharge only from the outer ear. A clinician can check the canal and eardrum and recommend appropriate drops or pain relief.

Seek prompt medical care for severe or worsening pain, spreading redness or swelling, fever, dizziness, marked hearing change, or facial weakness. People with diabetes, a weakened immune system, or significant ear disease should seek advice early because canal infections can become more serious.

Ask whether the eardrum is intact, which drops are suitable, how to keep the ear dry, and what symptoms should trigger urgent review. Tell the clinician every product you have placed in or near the ear.
