Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by a parasite. It can cause vaginal discharge, irritation, itching, discomfort when urinating, or pain during sex, although some people have no symptoms. These signs can overlap with thrush, bacterial vaginosis, or other infections, so a symptom alone cannot identify the cause. A clinician may recommend an examination or a vaginal or urine test.

If testing confirms trichomoniasis, take the prescribed medicine exactly as directed.
