Oral melanoma inside the cheek: what to know

The inside cheek is lined by oral mucosa, where melanoma may appear as a new or changing pigmented patch, a raised area, or an irregular mark. It may be noticed during tooth brushing or a dental examination and may not cause pain. Similar changes can result from repeated biting, dental friction, medication-related pigmentation, or other disorders. A clinician considers the colour, border, texture, duration, nearby tissues, and neck lymph nodes before deciding whether tissue sampling is needed.

Book an examination with a dentist or doctor and mention any recent dental work, cheek biting, tobacco exposure, or medication changes. Do not pick at the area or apply home remedies that could obscure its appearance. If melanoma is confirmed, staging determines whether care focuses on local removal, lymph-node assessment, or treatment beyond the original site. Possible approaches include Surgical Excision, Skin Cancer Surgery, Tumour Removal Surgery, and Immunotherapy.

Arrange prompt review for a mark that enlarges, changes colour, develops an uneven edge, bleeds, forms a sore, or persists after an obvious injury has healed. These warning signs warrant assessment because oral lesions can be hard to monitor without a direct examination.
