Oily Skin Care Tips

Short answer
Oily skin care works best when you cleanse gently, moisturise lightly, protect against sun and avoid trying to strip away every trace of oil.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Cleanse
- Morning, evening and after heavy sweating.
- Shine
- Blot rather than repeatedly washing.
- Products
- Prefer gentle, non-comedogenic formulas.
What oily skin tells you
Oil is produced by sebaceous glands and helps limit water loss from the skin. Shine becomes more visible when sebum collects on the surface, particularly in the central face. Strong detergents, frequent scrubbing and alcohol-heavy products may damage the barrier and trigger stinging or flaking. Oily skin can coexist with sensitivity, dehydration or acne, so a tight feeling after washing does not mean the routine is working.
Tips that are easier to maintain
Cleanse after waking and before bed with a gentle product, and rinse after heavy sweating. Select moisturisers and sunscreen labelled non-comedogenic or oil-free when these feel comfortable. Blotting papers can remove surface shine without repeated washing. Introduce salicylic acid or another targeted product slowly if blackheads or spots are a concern, and stop if burning or swelling develops. Keep pillowcases, phones and makeup tools clean, and do not squeeze blemishes. A clinician can tailor care for Acne, Hormonal Acne or persistent oiliness; Isotretinoin Treatment is reserved for selected cases under medical supervision.
Signs that need assessment
See a dermatologist when spots are painful, leave scars, return despite consistent care, or appear with persistent scale and redness around the scalp, ears or nose. Acne and Seborrheic Dermatitis can overlap with oily skin but require different approaches. Prompt assessment is sensible for sudden changes, severe tenderness, fever, or swelling near the eyes.
Useful questions
Ask which cleanser and active ingredient fit your skin, whether your sunscreen is clogging pores, and how long to try a routine before changing it.
