NuVasive Reline Pedicle Screw

Pedicle screws are placed through the vertebral pedicles, which are strong bridges of bone at the back of each vertebra. Surgeons connect screws with rods to hold selected vertebrae in a planned position. The hardware can support alignment and stability while the spine heals, but it does not by itself treat every source of back or leg symptoms.

Reline is a system name, and the exact components, levels, surgical approach, and reason for implantation vary. Spinal Fusion may use this type of fixation, while Scoliosis Surgery may use multiple anchors to help correct and maintain spinal alignment.

Before surgery, ask which spinal levels will be treated, what the implant is expected to accomplish, and whether bone quality affects fixation. Share all medicines, allergies, previous operations, and health conditions with the surgical team. Follow instructions about walking, wound care, lifting, bathing, driving, and physiotherapy after the procedure.

Some soreness, stiffness, and limited activity can occur during recovery. Attend planned reviews so the team can assess the wound, neurological symptoms, alignment, and progress. Do not assume that new pain means the screw has moved, and do not ignore new symptoms; examination and imaging may be needed to identify the cause.

Contact the surgical team promptly for increasing wound redness, drainage, fever, opening of the incision, or pain that is rapidly worsening. Seek urgent care for new or worsening leg weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin, severe shortness of breath, or chest pain. A fall or sudden change in pain should also be reported after implantation.

Ask: Why is this screw system suitable for my spine? Which levels and structures will be involved? How will bone quality be assessed? What restrictions apply after surgery? Which symptoms are expected, and which require urgent contact? How will follow-up imaging assess healing and alignment?
