What should you know about normal looking ecg?

Many ordinary moles are small, fairly symmetrical spots with a regular outline and a consistent colour. They may be flat or raised and can occur on covered or sun-exposed skin. A mole that has looked the same over time is generally less concerning than one that is changing.

Self-checks cannot replace a clinician's examination. A new mark, an evolving mole, or a lesion that differs from the others may need closer assessment, even if it does not hurt.

Inspect your skin in good light and use photographs to compare size, shape, edge, and colour over time. Include areas that are easy to miss, such as the scalp, back, and between toes, with help when needed. Protect exposed skin from strong sun and avoid picking or injuring a raised mole.

Book a dermatology review for a mole that changes in size, shape, colour, or elevation; develops an irregular edge; repeatedly bleeds, crusts, or itches; or looks unlike your other marks. Arrange prompt care for rapid change, ongoing bleeding, or a new dark lesion. A clinician may examine it with magnification and decide whether sampling is appropriate.

Ask what features were reassuring or concerning, whether the mole should be photographed or reviewed again, and whether removal would be diagnostic or for comfort. Ask how a wound would be cared for if removal is recommended.
