What should you know about non-germinal B-cell lymphoma?

B cells are immune cells that can become abnormal and form lymphoma. The non-germinal B-cell label describes a pattern of cell development; it is not enough on its own to identify the exact lymphoma or predict how it will behave.

Diagnosis usually combines a biopsy with laboratory testing of the cells. Doctors may use blood tests and PET-CT imaging to assess where lymphoma is present. Symptoms can include painless swollen lymph nodes, fever, fatigue, weight loss, or night sweats, although other illnesses can cause them too.

A haematology team may discuss chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy, or a combination. The plan depends on the named lymphoma subtype, its extent, symptoms, and response to treatment.

If lymphoma returns or does not respond sufficiently, cellular treatments may be considered for selected people, including CAR T-cell therapy or an autologous stem cell transplant. Ask how treatment affects infection risk, vaccinations, fertility, work, and daily activities.

Contact your cancer team urgently for fever during treatment, shaking chills, new confusion, severe weakness, or difficulty breathing. Emergency care is needed for sudden swelling of the face or neck, severe chest symptoms, or collapse.

Ask for the exact lymphoma name, what the biopsy tests found, which areas are involved, whether PET-CT is needed, and how response will be monitored. If treatment may change later, ask when cellular therapy could be considered.
