Heavy bleeding after two months without a period

When ovulation is delayed or does not occur, the uterine lining may shed irregularly and produce a heavier bleed. Pregnancy and early pregnancy loss must also be considered when pregnancy is possible. Perimenopause and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome can disturb cycle timing, while Adenomyosis, Endometrial Polyps, Endometrial Hyperplasia, or Uterine Fibroids can contribute to heavy bleeding.

Heavy blood loss can leave you tired, breathless, dizzy, or pale. Repeated loss may contribute to Iron Deficiency Anaemia. The amount and symptoms matter more than the number of missed cycles when deciding how quickly to seek help.

If pregnancy is possible, take a pregnancy test and tell the clinician the result. Track how often you change pads or tampons, whether clots are present, how long the bleeding lasts, and symptoms such as pain or dizziness. Arrange a medical review if the bleeding is heavier than your usual period, continues, or keeps returning.

A clinician may check your blood count, examine you, and discuss imaging or treatment based on the cause. Do not start iron or hormonal medicine without advice about the right product and dose.

Seek urgent care if bleeding is soaking pads quickly, you feel faint or very weak, have shortness of breath, severe pain, fever, or a positive pregnancy test with pain or dizziness. These symptoms can indicate significant blood loss, infection, or a pregnancy emergency.

Ask whether you need a pregnancy test, blood count, pelvic examination, or ultrasound; what may have delayed ovulation; whether the womb lining needs assessment; and how to prevent another heavy episode.
