A bleeding change alone does not prove that the implant has failed or that another illness is present.

Before insertion, tell the clinician about pregnancy possibility, medicines, supplements, allergies, liver problems, and relevant medical history. Some medicines can interfere with hormonal contraception. Follow wound-care instructions, keep the area clean while it heals, and avoid trying to move, cut, or remove the rod. If you cannot feel it, use backup contraception and contact the clinic. Keep a note of bleeding, pain, and any new medicines so the appointment is more useful.

Contact a clinician for worsening pain, redness, warmth, swelling, discharge, fever, persistent numbness, or weakness around the arm. Arrange assessment for bleeding that is prolonged, unusually heavy, or accompanied by dizziness, breathlessness, or marked tiredness. Seek urgent help for severe abdominal pain, fainting, or a positive pregnancy test with pain or bleeding. These warning symptoms need assessment rather than reassurance based only on how common a side effect is.
