What should you know about newborn pimples on nose?

The nose has many oil glands, and tiny pale or red bumps may become visible as a newborn’s skin adjusts after birth. Heat, rubbing, milk, or saliva can add irritation. Folliculitis may produce pimple-like bumps around hairs; acne, rosacea, and perioral dermatitis are other possibilities a clinician may consider when the appearance or distribution does not fit a simple newborn rash.

Check whether the bumps are smooth or crusted, dry or moist, and limited to the nose or spreading toward the cheeks and eyes. The nose location by itself does not establish a diagnosis.

Use lukewarm water and, when needed, a small amount of gentle fragrance-free cleanser. Pat the nose dry with a soft cloth. Remove milk or mucus without rubbing. Do not pick, squeeze, lance, scrub, or apply adult acne medicine, essential oils, or medicated creams without advice. Keep the baby comfortably cool and avoid tight face coverings.
