What burnout may look like
Burnout can involve deep Fatigue, reduced motivation, emotional distance, irritability, and difficulty concentrating. Sleep may become unsettled: some people have Difficulty Sleeping, while others sleep for long periods without feeling restored. Feeling Anxious and Loss of Libido can accompany the strain. Burnout is more than an ordinary tired day and can overlap with depression, anxiety, insomnia, physical illness, or medication effects.
Ways to respond
Name the pressures that are continuing and identify one demand that can be paused, shared, or renegotiated. Protect regular food, hydration, movement, and a wind-down period before sleep. Tell a trusted person what support would be useful. A GP can assess symptoms, review physical contributors, and discuss counselling, workplace adjustments, or treatment. Recovery usually needs changes to the conditions causing strain, not only more effort from you.
When to seek urgent help
Get urgent help if you may harm yourself, cannot keep yourself safe, feel detached from reality, or have severe panic with physical danger signs. Arrange a clinical review when exhaustion, sleep disruption, low mood, or work impairment continues and self-care is not restoring function.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your symptoms fit Burnout or another condition, what physical checks may help, and how to plan time off, therapy, sleep support, or workplace changes.
