What should you know about needle laser hair removal?

Despite the name, laser hair removal does not normally use a needle. A device delivers pulses of light to the skin, and pigment in the hair absorbs the energy as heat. The follicle is affected most when the hair is in a suitable growth phase, so repeat sessions are planned rather than treating every follicle at once.

Temporary warmth, redness or swelling around follicles can happen. The device and settings must be selected for hair colour, skin tone, body area and recent sun exposure. Alexandrite, diode and Nd:YAG lasers have different operating characteristics.
