Nasolabial Folds and Marionette Lines

Nasolabial folds travel from the sides of the nose toward the mouth. Marionette lines begin near the corners of the mouth and descend toward the chin, sometimes creating a downturned appearance. Both may become more visible with expression, reduced elasticity, changes in facial support or sun exposure.

Because the lines meet around the mouth, it can be difficult to tell which one is bothering you in a mirror. Looking at the full lower face helps a clinician judge skin quality, cheek support, mouth movement and chin shape together.

A simple routine with sunscreen, moisturiser and gentle cleansing supports the skin but cannot change every structural crease. Dermal fillers may be considered for selected areas of volume loss. A thread lift may be discussed when laxity and lifting support are central concerns. Treatment should be tailored separately to the fold and the marionette line rather than assuming one product or technique suits both.
