Nasolabial Fold Wrinkles

The line follows the natural boundary between the nose and cheek and continues toward the mouth. Repeated smiling and talking fold the skin, while ultraviolet exposure can weaken collagen and make lines more apparent. Changes in cheek volume or skin laxity may leave the crease visible when the face is relaxed.

This pattern is different from crow's feet, which form beside the eyes, although several types of facial lines can appear together. A clinician can separate texture, movement and support concerns during an examination.

Use broad-spectrum sunscreen, avoid intentional tanning and keep the skin moisturised. A prescribed retinoid may help selected signs of photoaging, but irritation is possible and it should be introduced according to medical advice. Dermal fillers may support a fold when volume change contributes. Botox is aimed at selected muscle activity and is not interchangeable with filler for every nasolabial line.

A treatment plan should consider the whole midface rather than chasing the deepest part of a crease. Review allergies, medicines, previous procedures and your preferred level of movement before treatment.

Arrange a clinical review for a sudden or one-sided wrinkle-like change, pain, swelling, numbness, facial weakness, a new lump or a sore that persists. Sudden facial weakness or speech difficulty is urgent. Gradual, symmetric lines can be discussed during a non-urgent consultation.
