What should you know about my ovulation pain is unbearable?

Ovulation pain can feel like a one-sided ache or sharp cramp when an ovary releases an egg. Severe, prolonged or recurring pain has other possible explanations. Endometriosis commonly presents with pelvic pain, and ovarian cysts can present with one-sided pain, pressure or sudden worsening; neither diagnosis can be made from timing alone.

Pain location, duration, bleeding, bowel or bladder symptoms, fever, vomiting and pregnancy possibility help a clinician decide whether examination, pregnancy testing or imaging is needed.

Stop strenuous activity, note when the pain began and record its side, intensity, bleeding and associated symptoms. Gentle heat may soothe mild cramps. Do not exceed the label directions for any pain medicine, and check with a pharmacist or clinician if pregnancy is possible, you have stomach or kidney problems, or you take blood thinners.

Seek urgent care for sudden severe pain, fainting, dizziness, shoulder-tip pain, heavy vaginal bleeding, fever, repeated vomiting, a rigid abdomen, or pain with a positive pregnancy test or possible pregnancy.
